The legendary Serengeti, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the stage for the epic Great Migration and home to the densest concentration of large mammals on Earth.
The Serengeti ecosystem is one of the oldest and most scientifically significant on the planet. Its name, derived from the Maasai word "Siringet" meaning "endless plains," perfectly describes its vast, treeless grasslands that stretch to the horizon. It's most famous for the annual circular Great Migration of over 1.5 million wildebeest, 250,000 zebra, and antelope. However, its resident populations of predators (lions, cheetahs, leopards) and diverse landscapes from kopjes to rivers make it spectacular year-round.
The Great Migration: The park's defining phenomenon.
Big Cat Populations: Arguably the best place in Africa to see lions, cheetahs, and leopards.
Seronera Valley ("The Big Cat Capital"): Riverine area rich in resident wildlife.
Moru Kopjes & Retina Hippo Pool: Famous rock outcrops and a dense hippo concentration.
