Volcanoes National Park

The Rwandan home of the mountain gorilla, made famous by Dian Fossey. This breathtaking park of misty volcanoes offers intimate gorilla trekking and golden monkey encounters.

Overview

Volcanoes National Park (Parc National des Volcans) protects the Rwandan sector of the Virunga Mountains, a chain of eight volcanoes. It is the epicenter of mountain gorilla conservation and tourism, providing a more accessible and often less strenuous trekking experience compared to Bwindi. The park's dramatic landscapes of bamboo forest, montane rainforest, and volcanic peaks create a mystical setting for unforgettable wildlife encounters.

Temperature: Ranges from 10-22°C (50-72°F). Mornings at the park headquarters can be very chilly.

Rainfall: Significant, especially in the wet seasons. Rain is possible year-round.
